Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions for Windows XP (KB943729)

They are a set of group policy setting extensions that were previously known as PolicyMaker. Microsoft bought PolicyMaker and then integrated them with Windows Server 2008. Microsoft has since released a migration tool that allows users to migrate PolicyMaker items to Group Policy Preferences.[3]

Is this limited to Server 2008? My (limited) understanding was that the new group policy extensions were only available on the newer OS? (but that the client side extensions needed to be installed on the client installations)...

Hmm... the screenshots you're showing seem to indicate they're being run from a Vista box? So perhaps you're tapping in to these group policy preferences from the MMC GPO snap in from Vista... but I cannot see how to get these same preferences from Server 2k3's GPM... any suggestions?

I looked in rsop.msc and there is no "preferences" section... it looks like the good old legacy group policy. I even ran gpedit.msc from an XP or Win7 machine and there is no preferences section, so I don't think client side extensions are installed for any version of Windows here.

Logon and startup scripts were a cornerstone of Windows 2003 and earlier domains, but their usefulness has been diminished in later releases of Windows Server. Group Policy Preferences gives administrators a much better way to handle drive and printer mappings, shortcuts, files, registry entries, local group membership and many other things that could only be done in a startup or logon script. If you're thinking that you might need to use a script for a simple task, there's probably a Group Policy or preference for it instead. Nowadays on domains with Windows 7 (or later) clients, only complex tasks require startup or logon scripts.

NOT: Windows XP işletim sistemlerinde group policy ile yapılan preferences ayarları gitmez. Bunun için aşağıdaki eklentiyi tüm Windows XP makinelere öncelikle kurmanız gerekmektedir. (GPO lar ile dağıtabilirsiniz)

If you enable the site wide push then all the machines that are discovered will have SCCM client installed. Pushing client using group policy is one of the method to install SCCM clients on systems. I just showed the steps on how can you deploy SCCM clients using GPO. 2ff7e9595c
